CogMap: The Organization Chart Wiki

CogMap.jpeg

CogMap is an interesting web innovation that allows individuals to see, create and edit organization charts online. This service should enjoy some good “legs,” or staying power, unless it receives heavy heat or legal challenges from corporations relating to private information.

The site should be a real boon for recruiters and headhunters.  Firms that are less concerned about their chart being in the public domain might also find it helpful as well.

Hi Robert,

I've seen this program and it does look like it has enormous potential. I've worked with so many organizations where org charts are four or five generations old because HR can't keep up with them...and poor new hires struggle to understand the organization's structure. Why not turn the reigns over to people who have time and interst in keeping this information relevant?

I'm just wondering how many companies are actually using - and benefitting - from programs like CogMap, or whether it's another cool idea that will get minimal use. Wonder if people will actually take the time to update them.

Phyllis:

It might be a little bit ahead of its time. I did notice the other day a firm that is selling Wiki software for internal only charting purposes.

Whatever happened to the liturgy about org charts being dead??
